FUTURE events could be supported by Trowbridge Town Council in a change to its annual grants policy.

The council’s policy and resources committee last month decided to award a £7,000 grant towards a celebration of people wearing uniforms.

It will be used to support uniformed services events planned for Saturday, June 26 next year or on Saturday, September 10.

Councillors prefer the September 10 date as these events take time to organise.

The council’s grants policy determines annual cash awards to local charities and other organisations.

Cllr Stewart Palmen, the council leader, who chairs the P&R committee, said: “One change was to make a grant available to support future events such as the town’s popular Armed Forces event, which has had to be cancelled for the second year running due to the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Organisations receiving core grants for the 2021/22 financial year in accordance with the policy are: Trowbridge Guild of Community Service £1,000; Citizens Advice Bureau £5,000; HELP Counselling Services £1,000; Trowbridge Area Community Link Scheme £1,000 and Wiltshire MIND £1,000.

Recipients of general grants for the 2021/22 financial year in accordance with the policy are: Wiltshire Sight £800; Life Education Centre (Wiltshire) Ltd £1,000 and Trowbridge Wanderers Football Club £606.77.

The three General Grant awards total £2,406.77, from a budget of £10,000: with £7,593.23 of that budget left to award.

Organisations have until Saturday, July 31 to make applications for the P&R committee to consider at its September meeting.
