AN annual art exhibition organised by Bradford on Avon Lions Club is likely to raise more than £400 for its charitable funds.

Around 23 artists displayed 90 paintings for sale at the art exhibition in the town's Holy Trinity Church on Saturday and seven of their works were sold to visitors.

For the first time, the show included a craft fair with ten stallholders selling a wide range of products as gifts or to decorate home interiors.

Organiser Keith Yates, from Bradford on Avon Lions Club, said the art exhibition and craft fair had been a huge success.

"We usually raise between £250 and £300 but this year we are hoping to have raised more than £400," he said.

Mr Yates added: "Our past exhibitions have always concentrated on paintings and photographs, but this year for the first time we wanted to create more interest by including stalls of locally-made crafts.

"The stallholders who attended said the craft fair had gone very well and they seemed very happy with the number of people who had purchased their products."

The event, from 11am to 4pm, featured live music from a guitarist in the morning and a pianist in the afternoon.

The club also sold refreshments, including homemade cakes and cream teas, to visitors.

Entry to the art exhibition and craft fair was free and Mr Yates has already enquired about booking the church for a similar event on Saturday, July 9 next year.

"I have asked the vicar, the Reverend Canon Joanna Abecassis to send me a booking form.

"We have to get in quick and plan ahead because the Holy Trinity Church is a very popular place for weddings in the summer months."
