The following planning decisions have been made by Wiltshire Council, recently:

Marlborough: Gary Sharp of Hightown, Cross Lane was denied a planning bid by the council.

Mr Sharp had planned to build a residential property on the land at the junction of Cross Lane and Back Lane in the garden of “High Town”.

Wiltshire Council’s planning officers said: “The proposed dwelling would result in a cramped form of development that fails to enhance the distinctiveness of the Area of special character by relating positively to the existing pattern of development, and the proposal does not demonstrate that it would retain trees, and hedges of importance to the character of the area or that it would respond positively to the existing townscape in terms of building layouts, built form, building line, plot size and elevational design.”

Officers added that there was no detailed daylight impact assessment to show the impact of the proposed development on neighbours.

“In the absence of details to demonstrate that vehicles would be able to enter and leave the site in a forward gear, or that adequate visibility splays could be provided, the application does not demonstrate that safe access for vehicle movements can be achieved for the development,” they added.

Marlborough Town Council objected to the bid on the basis that it constituted over-development.

Residents, John and Hilary Rees said: “We are not in all honesty in favour of a building project cramming a large house plus a detached two-storey double garage/carport on to a proportionally sized garden of an existing house to create an excessively high-density corner of junction plot of buildings, let alone all the issues highlighted by others concerning the location.”

Luckington: Mr and Mrs Williams have won planning permission to build extensions to the main house at Cobar Chase in The Street.

The plans also include permission to demolish an existing stable block to build a new garage with additional accommodation over it.

Trowbridge: John Moraes of 27 Hawthorn Grove has been awarded planning permission by Wiltshire Council to build a two-storey side extension at his property.

Mr Moraes also applied to carry out a garage conversation and to add a gazebo style structure at the rear of his property. All of which were given the green light.

Whaddon: Mayfair Wiltshire Ltd has been refused planning permission for continued use of Alderbury Park Caravan And Camping Site on Southampton Road as a site for touring caravans with the toilet block and office in breach of previously set conditions.

The decision notice from the council said: “The Local Planning Authority considers that there is insufficient evidence to demonstrate that, on the balance of probabilities, the site within the red line as submitted has continued to be used as a site for touring caravans with toilet block and office and alteration to access for a continuous period of at least 10 years prior to the date of submission of the application.”

Malmesbury: Plans to install an 11-foot tall bronze statue of Aethelstan, the first king of all England have been pulled.

Trustees of the charity, Aethelstan, First King of All England Trust put in the planning bid early this year.

But due to “mixed reactions” to the plans to install the King Aethelstan statue at Birdcage Walk in Malmesbury.

Chairman of the trust, Barbara Pollard said it was important to the trust to try to have the whole community on board.

“Although wide consultation had previously taken place resulting in a pre-application approval, in principle, from Wiltshire Council with support from Historic England, comments had been received from HE and some members of the public that required a rethink.

“The trustees are conscious of the broad and enthusiastic support for the project and invite suggestions for any preferred alternative location.”

Burbage: Mark Fox of Pall Mall House on Grafton Road has been given the green light to build an oak timber-framed building for use as a domestic garage and for offices and storage in conjunction with existing business use.

Hilmarton: Hilmarton Primary School has been given permission to renew the planning permission for the retention of existing single mobile at the school site.
