TROWBRIDGE Town Council has given its full backing to the world and UK-wide Fairtrade movement.

Councillors voted unanimously at their last full council meeting to support a motion from Cllr Stephen Cooper to continue the support for Fairtrade and the Trowbridge Fairtrade group.

Steve Oldrieve, vice-chair of Trowbridge Fairtrade group, said: "I'm delighted the whole council gave their full support to continue the long association it has had with the Trowbridge Fairtrade group.

"I look forward to this commitment to ethical trading being included in the council's four-year business plan currently under consideration. The Trowbridge Fairtrade Group can now move forward with our own plans, knowing we have the council's backing.

"Fairtrade is as important now as it has ever been, as it sets the standards for ethical trading, to ensure growers and crafts people receive a fair day's wage for a fair day's work."
