A winning entry by Warminster ‘Tigers’ Cub Scout team has won the Wiltshire West District’s scrapheap challenge.
The team built a marvellous space craft complete with launch cylinders and a testing station to take the trophy.
Five packs with 29 Cubs from across the Wiltshire West District took part in the belated annual Scrapheap Challenge at the District’s Jubilee Wood camp site.
District Commissioner Christine Broom said: “The topic of ‘Landing on Mars’ was greeted with excitement due to the coverage of NASA and the Chinese landing and exploring on Mars this year.”
“The competition was high with the Cubs building various space ship constructions complete with landing pads, remote controls, battery chargers, solar panels, oil pumps turbo blasters, a robot called ‘Penguin One’ and included many aliens. The Cubs worked as teams with great enthusiasm even ‘out of this world!’ “
The event was organised by ADC Cubs Ben Reynolds and assisted by many leaders and parents.
The guest judge this year was Doreen Rogers, Active Support Member, who had a difficult job as there could only be one winner.
