CORSHAM’S Henry Dummott and Royal Wootton Bassett’s Sam Lawro have been shortlisted in The Cricketer magazine’s Pride of Cricket awards.

Dummott has been put up for the Young Hero award by Belle Mayo after deciding to raise money for his club by taking part in a five-hour bowlathon at Corsham Cricket Club.

The 11-year-old raised over £2000 for Corsham and took over 250 wickets in the process of his three-day effort.

Mayo said: “He put many hours into training and fundraising and recruited fellow teammates to keep wicket for him.

“The weather over the three days was awful, strong winds and even snow but that didn’t put him off, he bowled solidly for 100 minutes each morning (and only spread it over three days because his mum wouldn’t let him do it all in one day for fear of injury!).”

Meanwhile, Lawro was nominated by Mark Slater after the Bassett lad ran a marathon around his garden during lockdown last summer to raise money for Bassett.

In total, Lawro raised £2700 for the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground-based club, and the total is said to have kept the club afloat during the pandemic.
