RAIL commuters in Bradford on Avon and Trowbridge are being urged to attend a public meeting on October 20.

The meeting at 7pm is being staged at the Bethesda Baptist Church, in Gloucester Road, Trowbridge.

The move follows the decision by South Western Railway to withdraw services between London Waterloo station and the South West on Tuesday, December 12.

It will affect all rail passengers who use the through services from London Waterloo via Salisbury to Bradford on Avon, Trowbridge, Oldfield Park in Bath and Keynsham near Bristol.

The Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has given his consent to his own department’s proposals to discontinue the services.

South Western Railway says it is expecting demand for rail travel to be reduced post-Covid.

It also says its services duplicate those being offered between London and Bristol by Great Western Railway.
