WILTSHIRE'S Joe Andrews has been selected to represent Wales at the 2021 Victory Shield in Belfast.

The current St Augustine's Catholic College year 11 student will join up with the Wales U16s squad which has already played against England, Northern Ireland and France this year.

Andrews, and his Welsh teammates, will now take on Scotland, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland at the prestigious annual tournament from October 16-23.

Andrews - whose dad is head of PE at St Augustine's, has been involved with Wales for the last two years and made his debut against England U16s at St. Georges Park in June.

The 16-year-old went on to play against Northern Ireland U17s - also at St. George's Park - before taking part in a double-header against France U16s in Newport in September.

After being selected, the centre midfielder said: “I am delighted to be selected by Wales again and really looking forward to defending the Victory Shield.

"Northern Ireland were a really good test in June and I am sure Scotland and the Republic Of Ireland will be tough opponents too.”

Wales are the current joint-holders with Scotland after victory in 2019-20.
