WILTSHIRE Council is set to continue with its restructure after the process was halted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In June 2020, the council’s cabinet agreed to have only one chief executive officer, Terence Herbert.

Following this, corporate directors for place, people and resources were appointed and there was a “reshaping” in top positions.

As part of its restructure, the council will appoint officers to the following positions, director of ageing and living well, director of wholelife pathway and director of procurement and commissioning.

A report into the restructure said: “Further changes to the senior structure were postponed due to the need to focus on the pandemic response, however further changes to the senior structure have been now been agreed to ensure that it supports the policy and strategic direction given by the leader and cabinet, as well as the delivery of the new business plan.

“These proposed changes also took into consideration demands on services and lessons learnt from the way we have worked and delivered services to support our communities during the pandemic

“Consultation on the changes to the senior management structure took place on September 28, 2021 and, following a period of feedback and review, a final structure was confirmed on October 21, 2021.”

Leader of the council, Richard Clewer: “Changes to the senior leadership structure were planned after the appointment of a chief executive in June 2020 but the changes were delayed while the council responded to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“As a council we have always quickly adapted to an ever-changing landscape. We recognise that our way of working and the demand on our services has changed during the Covid-19 pandemic, and it’s important our structure reflects this.

“The new structure gives us a strong foundation that will allow us to operate in an efficient way and ensure the many skills of our workforce are aligned to the right services, which will ultimately be to the benefit of local residents.”

“We will need to confirm the appointments with those affected and inform our staff before releasing publicly who has been appointed.”
