Councillors enjoyed a day out in nature, celebrating completed works to extend the track at Green Lane Wood in Trowbridge.

Matt Callaway from Wiltshire Wildlife Trust showed Trowbridge mayor Cllr Denise Bates and fellow councillors the finished work last week.

The project was funded by Trowbridge Town Council, Trowbridge Area Board and Tesco's Bags of Help .

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust has also have been given some trees from The Woodland Trust and was out on Saturday planting them in the nature park.

This ancient oak woodland was left to the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust in 1991 by its previous owner who had lived in a cabin in the wood. In 1998 it purchased the wildflower meadow next to it.

The paths are covered with stones making access easy. The pond just off the main route was created by a stray World War II bomb.

The wood connects with Biss Wood nature reserve and Green Lane Nature Park.
