WORK has started on the refurbishment of the Kings Arms public house in Hilperton Marsh near Trowbridge.

The Star Pub & Bars group which owns the house is keen to refurbish some of its public houses that have suffered during Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns.

The company said: "We are looking to breathe new life into The Kings Arms by undertaking fundamental investment in the roof and building structure, including new doors and windows throughout.

"Once complete, later this year we will look to recruit an experienced operator who shares our vision and investment plans for the Kings Arms to bring it back to its full potential."

Th pub on Wyke Road occupies a prime location between Hilperton, Staverton and the Canal Road Industrial Estate in Trowbridge.

The Grade 2 listed pub dates from the late 18th century.

In 2019, planning permission was granted for an extension of the existing rear single storey extension, a full internal refurbishment and alterations to the first floor.

The work is being carried out by pub refurbisment specialists Comming and Pope.

The last time the Kings Arms was refurbished was a £40,000 makeover by previous owners Scottish & Newcastle in 2008.
