Lots like the world's ugliest teapot and a book on farts helped the folk of Royal Wootton Bassett to raise around £3,500 to help the victims of the war in Ukraine.

A charity auction, on Sunday at the Memorial Hall attracted some fierce bidding for a huge range of prizes, from helicopter flights and vintage cars to restaurant vouchers, lawn mowing and pots of pansies in blue and yellow.

It started with the Ukrainian National anthem and a welcome from mayor Steve Walls who thanked everyone who had donated lots, organised the event and volunteered to support it.

Auctioneer Coun Steve Bucknell then began the auction bidding and got everyone of all ages involved. Bidding got quite competitive over the book entitled Fartology: The Extraordinary Science behind the humble fart.

Home-baked cakes and treats decorated with Ukrainian colours were served to bidders, during the break to raise more money.

Organisers said they were grateful for the support of Rotary Club of Royal Wootton Bassett and District with payments, registration and gift aid.

In a statement they said: "We were pleased that we could do something to help and with the generosity of the people of Royal Wootton Bassett we were delighted to raise around £3,500 in just one day. We want to express our thanks to all the businesses, organisations, donors and volunteers who made this possible."

The money will go to the Disasters and Emergency Fund, which is helping those affected by the conflict.
