More than 30 children and young people representing 10 schools joined four local choirs to present the first ever Music for Good Concert in Royal Wootton Bassett.

St Barts Church played host to concerts in support of two nominated charities- Swindon Music Trust and Unicef Ukrainian Appeal.

They were specially designed to offer novice performers a supportive opportunity to perform, as well as more experienced musicians a chance to share their love of music and performing.

The events were the brainchild of a music therapist and teacher Lisa Williams. Music was chosen with an uplifting and resilience theme, so desperately needed in these troubling days.

Many local groups and individuals donated raffle prizes, cakes and valuable time.

Royal Wootton Bassett Flower Club donated 50 posies, decorated in Ukrainian colours for children to offer the audience during a moving song Seeds of Friendship.

The Mayor of Royal Wootton Bassett Steve Walls congratulated all the performers for their collective music making.

A special SEN and family friendly afternoon performance was supported by The Rise Trust, who brought sensory toys for the event- helping to enable families with children with additional needs to attend.

£1200 was raised and will be shared between Swindon Music Trust - a small charity which supports families accessing music therapy and music tuition, together with Unicef.

“Saturdays concerts were an absolute joy to organise. I have met so many new friends who offered so much support and help. Huge thanks especially to Ceri, by the way! I believe that music can do so much good, to individuals certainly, but also collectively to communities,” said Lisa.

It is hoped that the Music For Good Concert will become an annual musical event in the town.

Lisa added: “ Perhaps it could become a whole weekend event- like a mini festival, incorporating all the diverse music and arts in our remarkable town."
