A historian and amateur photographer has captured a slice of history, with the launch of a book which spans two decades.

Trowbridge’s Kevin Hartley turned to updating his photographs of the town during lockdown, which led to the idea of creating the book ’Changing Landscape of our Town’.

Over the last 21 years, Kevin had photographed many views of his hometown, building an extensive library of images.

Mr Hartley, a member of the Trowbridge Civic Society, said: “During the lockdown due to Covid I was sorting out the dozens of photographs I have taken of the town when I realised many of the views no longer exist either having been demolished or rebuilt.

“The town has changed a lot just over these last 20 years. This book illustrates how places have changed- both as a historic record and also to show the differences.”

Among the dozens of pictures, presented in the then and now format, are the two main industries that were major employers in the town.

The Ushers Brewery and food manufacturer Bowyers are now both gone and photographs in the book show how these industrial venues have changed.

The book was launched at the Trowbridge Museum with author Kevin Hartley, the town crier Trevor Heeks and the mayor Cllr Denise Bates.
