The face of Trowbridge high street could be set to change, with a historic building set to go up for auction.

Part of what was the former Samuel Pitman factory in Trowbridge is being auctioned with a freehold guide price of £320,000-£330,000.

Pitman House at 9 and 10 Silver Street is among 110 lots listed across southern England by Clive Emson Auctioneers of Fareham.

Rob Marchant, the firm’s Wiltshire auctioneer, said: “The right-hand half of the property, number 9, is currently let at £22,000 per annum and comprises a ground floor shop and first floor offices.

“The left-hand side, number 10, was last in use as a restaurant and is currently vacant.

“Purchasers may look to let number 10 to supplement the healthy income from number 9, or there is planning consent for the upper parts of the whole building to be converted into three flats whilst retaining the commercial elements on the ground floor.”

Clive Emson’s auction timers end on Thursday, May 5, with the online bidding live two days beforehand.

Samuel Pitman was one of Trowbridge's clothiers, and Pitman House is a late 18th Century factory that was owned by him.

Samuel is the father of Sir Isaac Pitman, who was the inventor of Pitman shorthand.
