RESIDENTS in Bradford on Avon has organised a fundraising coffee morning in response to the ongoing crisis in the Ukraine.

It will be staged at the town’s Holy Trinity Church on Saturday, May 14 between 10.30am and 12.30pm to raise funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

Organiser Jane Jones said: “It became apparent that many people wanted to help in any way they could, be it volunteering to serve the Fairtrade teas and coffees which will kindly be donated by The Co-op Bridge Yard store, baking delicious homemade cakes, stewarding, welcoming and lots in between.

“We are also extremely grateful to Bradford on Avon Town Council for their fulsome support of the event.”

Town Councillor Sam Blackwell, whose wife Yana comes from Ukraine, was instrumental in organising the recent community appeal for donations.

Mrs Jones added: “He will update us on some of the forthcoming practical plans currently being discussed on how to support those arriving from the Ukraine.

“There will also be  an opportunity to view a display charting the journey of the items that were  donated by our community.”

The cash raised will help buy food, water medicine and provide accommodation for people fleeing the war.
