THE new mayor of Bradford on Avon is Liberal Democrat town councillor and former deputy mayor, Cllr Katie Vigar.

She succeeded outgoing mayor, Cllr Sarah Gibson, at the Annual Council meeting on Tuesday, May 3.

LibDem town councillor Jennie Parker will become the deputy mayor of Bradford on Avon for 2022/23.

On her election to mayor, Cllr Vigar said: “It’s a privilege to have this opportunity to work with my fellow councillors and the people of our wonderful town.

“One of this town’s greatest strengths is its community. We saw that during the pandemic and we see it again with the tremendous welcome for the Ukrainians who are arriving here.

“Community spirit will also be vital in facing up to the cost-of-living crisis as a town.

“I look forward to doing all I can to represent and support our community over the coming year.”

Newly-elected deputy mayor, Cllr Parker added: “In the next year, I want to build on the work I've undertaken over the past five years with the town’s older population and those most vulnerable.

“I hope to increase my understanding of the wider locality and work with other towns in the county to bring fresh ideas to Bradford on Avon.”
