A Wiltshire marketing expert has been presented with the MBE for her services to the UK construction sector.

Denise O’Leary, founder of Chippenham-based Purpol Marketing, attended the first Investiture to be held at Buckingham Palace since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge presented Denise with the MBE – Most Excellent Order of the British Empire - that she was awarded in the New Year’s Honours List.

Denise, 50, who lives in Chippenham, said: “I was so thrilled and humbled to be part of such a historic occasion.

“The Duke of Cambridge was very friendly and we had a wonderful personal chat, it was like a private audience as each person was awarded individually.

“We chatted about the importance of training young people and my love of the colour purple!

“We were escorted through the palace and had a special pin placed on my clothes, so the insignia was easily hooked on when the honour was awarded.

“The ceremony took place in the Throne Room - where an Investiture last took place in 1904.

“On duty was the Queen’s Body Guard of the Yeoman of the Guard and we were also serenaded by the Countess of Wessex’s String Orchestra.

“This was a magical, memorable and truly unforgettable experience.”

Mrs O’Leary has a high profile in the construction sector, helping companies to win multi-million-pound contracts.

She has been a keynote speaker at the Big 5 Building and Construction Expo in Dubai several times as well as for UK Construction Week.

Denise is a hugely-respected international Women in Construction ambassador, speaking at events on why women should consider construction as a career.

“We have worked with Denise on a number of high value project bids and have found her professionalism and industry knowledge invaluable.” said Shaun Tew, of Tew Bros.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you – your bid writing has almost certainly saved our company. You are part of our family.” said Neil Griffiths of WB Griffiths and Sons.

She was the first business owner in the UK to take on 50 Kickstarters at once to help young people take the first steps in their careers. To date she has supported nearly 230 young people in this way.

“Denise is second to none. Her knowledge is evidently polished and her dedication to others is duly admired,” said Aidan Bayford, Kickstart student from July-December 2021.
