SUPPORTERS of the Disaster Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal have raised a massive £4,700 with a coffee morning in Bradford on Avon and a donation from the town council.
Scores of people attended the event at Holy Trinity Church on Saturday, which was attended by Ukrainian refugees who are being accommodated locally.
The town’s new mayor Cllr Katie Vigar, deputy mayor Cllr Jennie Parker, former mayor Cllr Alex Kay also turned out.
During the event, supporters held a minute's silence for the thousands of Ukrainians who have sadly lost their lives during the Russian invasion of their country.
Organiser Jane Jones said: ““It was an absolute pleasure to be able to host such a wonderful inclusive community event.
“It was an absolutely amazing morning and were delighted to be joined by so many of our new Ukrainian neighbours.
“The sum of £2,200 was raised on the day which, together with the generous donation of £2,500 from BoA Town Council, the grand total of £4,700 has been forwarded to the Appeal Fund.
“But there were more than a few tears shed too by all that were present as we heard our Ukrainian friends began to sing as their National Anthem was played, a poignant memory that will never be forgotten.”
