RESIDENTS and visitors to Bradford on Avon have been cooing and billing with love for the town’s latest tourist attractions.

They have been swarming around the River Avon to get a bird’s eye view of the town’s swans and their five fluffy little cygnets born last week.

Among the comments are “so adorable”, “so sweet”, “aww, so lovely”, “absolutely gorgeous”, and “loving these swans, large and small”.

Once again, Trowbridge wildlife photographer Alan Benson has been posting daily snaps of the swans and the cygnets on a popular local social media site.

But not everyone is happy with all the attention – the male cob swan has already ‘warned off’ kayakers and paddle boarders getting too close to his family.

A spokesman for Bradford on Avon Town Council urged river users to be careful and respectful of the swans while they are foraging for food around the town bridge.

“The swans are instinctively protective of their young and we urge all river users to give swans the space they and their budding families need.”

Last year, a paddleboarder got too close to a protective swan and was tipped off his board into the water for his behaviour.
