TROWBRIDGE’S civic leader Cllr Denise Bates has praised the success of the town's Weavers Market while opening the first event of 2022.

Accompanied by Trowbridge town crier Trevor Heeks and completing her last official function as mayor, she opened the first Weavers Market in Fore Street on Saturday (May 14).

Cllr Bates told the assembled throng: “I am delighted to officially open the first Weavers Market of 2022.

“This market is now firmly established as a valuable part of the Trowbridge calendar offering a superb array of handmade products, food, drink and entertainment for people of all ages.”

The mayor praised the success of the Weavers Market, saying Trowbridge had received its market charter in 1200 AD - 800 years ago.

“Not only the earliest charter in Wiltshire but one of the first in England,” she said.

The market takes place on the second Saturday of the month from 10am to4pm from May to December in Fore Street, the Town Hall and Emmanuel’s Yard.

The Trowbridge Weavers Market is a not-for-profit community organisation established in January 2019.
