POLICE in Chippenham and Corsham have warned residents to beware of a telephone scam where the offenders are claiming to be from the Westminster Serious Fraud Squad in London.

Police posted a message on local social media saying: “Chippenham response and Corsham Neighbourhood officers are investigating a telephone scam where the offenders have phoned local residents and claimed to be officers from the Serious Fraud Squad in Westminster.

“The caller has attempted to gain bank details and arrange for a Bank transfer or the collection of cash. The caller has given a false name and Police collar number.

“The Police will never ask you to transfer money, provide bank details or arrange to visit to collect large amounts of cash directly from you.

“Please share this with family and friends and especially those that might be vulnerable. Please be on the lookout for your neighbours and help us to keep everyone safe.
