A man from Warminster has been banned from driving for 15 months after committing multiple offences including using a mobile phone while behind the wheel of a car.
Adam Cross, 29, of Daniell Crest, was handed the disqualification on Friday, May 27, at Salisbury Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to drug driving, driving while using his mobile phone, driving with no MOT and possession of cannabis.
On February 23, officers on mobile patrol sighted Cross in a Ford Fiesta driving on Pound Street, Warminster, whilst using his phone. Officers stopped the vehicle and immediately noticed the smell of cannabis coming from inside the car.
Cross was detained for a search of the vehicle and cannabis was located. He then failed a drugs wipe test and blood results showed him to be twice the limit for cannabis and 9.5 times the limit for benzoylecgonine (a breakdown product of cocaine). The vehicle was also showing as having no valid MOT certificate.
As well as the 15-month ban, Cross was ordered to pay a total of £320 in fines, costs and surcharges.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: To be under the influence of illegal drugs is completely unacceptable behaviour and shows complete disregard for other road users and pedestrians.”
