PEOPLE living in Warminster are being urged to take part in the next stage of the forming the town’s Neighbourhood Plan.

The Neighbourhood Plan was voted in by the community and was 'made' in November 2016.

It sets the local planning policy for Warminster and is used by Planning Officers when considering planning applications.

Now residents are being asked to help review it and to put forward their key issues and priorities for Warminster over the next 20 years.

During the initial review, held earlier in the year, Warminster Town Council received more than 200 responses from residents and those who work in the town to an online survey thinking about what to treasure and transform in Warminster.

In addition, people were asked to complete a short survey, and a drop-in event for invited stakeholders was also held for them to submit their thoughts and opinions.

A council spokesman said: “Thanks must go to all those members of the community who took the time to give their feedback, all comments have been collated and will help to develop a shared vision for the town.

“Feedback focused upon three key areas: highlighting what the community values, matters of interest that should be protected and strengthened and those areas that should be considered for review and development.

“The next step in the review process is for the town council to assemble working groups consisting of interested people from the local community who will look into different topics in more detail.”

The four main topics will be:

  • Housing and Communities
  • Economy and Town Centre
  • Environment, Heritage and Design
  • Getting Around

Over the summer, local people, supported by town council officers, together with planning consultants, will build up local evidence and research the national and Wiltshire context.

The spokesman added: “If you feel you could make a positive contribution towards the future vision of Warminster and would be interested in becoming a member of the steering group, please get in touch.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who would be willing to gather local evidence to update our existing policies and create new draft planning policies.

“To register your interest please email admin@warminster-tc.gov.uk or telephone 01985 214847.”
