DRIVERS from Wiltshire and Swindon are being warned to be aware of a wide load travelling along the A419 and the M4 motorway this morning.

Following the closure of the Honda factory at Swindon, an abnormal load will leave the plant at around 11am. It will move along the A419 and onto the M4 towards Avonmouth.

It will have a police escort and will take all of the A419 southbound and lane 1 and 2 on the motorway with some full three-lane closures at specific points.

Police said: “We anticipate that the load will be handed over to Avon and Somerset Police about 1.30pm at Leigh Delamere Services.

“Owing to its width, the loads are likely to be slow moving and have the potential to create congestion in places.

“Wherever possible, disruption will be kept to a minimum although both hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient should they come across this move.

“Anyone travelling in the vicinity over this period on time-critical matters should allow sufficient additional time for their journey.”
