POPULAR singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has surprised a resident of the BUPA Trowbridge Oaks care home with a special message for her 60th birthday.

Julie Maskelyne was “overjoyed” to receive the specially recorded message for her birthday today from the pop-star.

Ed Sheeran is best-known for tracks like Shape Of You, Shivers, Bad Habits, Thinking Out Loud, Perfect, The A Team and Lego House. 

Helen Meaden, activities coordinator at Trowbridge Oaks contacted Ed to see if he would record a special short birthday message for Julie, who suffers from Hodgkinsons Disease.

Helen said: "Ed said he was glad that Julie was his No.1 fan and a big thank you to her for her support for his music and he hoped that she was well."

Mr Sheeran has just become the first person to get most played artist and song acolades for the second year.

The message was broadcast at 2pm yesterday on a big screen and was followed by a birthday party celebration for Julie complete with cake and champagne.

Earlier in the morning, Julie, who has lived at the care home for the past four years, was taken by Adrian Ingram on a 30-minute camper van ride.
