CHIPPENHAM Lions Club are to give away around £15,000 to local charities and organisations at a presentation evening on Friday (June 24).

The presentation of cheques will be made at the Chippenham Golf Club from 6pm, with Chippenham mayor, Councillor Liz Alstrom attending.

Barbara Hearn, the Lions’ community service chair, said: “We will be making donations to local charity groups to enable them to continue their work within the community and some will get more than they are expecting.

“There will be 19 groups to receive our donations; groups like Doorstep, The Rise Trust, Olive Branch Counselling and Wiltshire Young Carers as well as many more of course.

“Their representatives will tell us about the work they undertake and how they expect to use the donations.

The Chippenham Lions are staging a Cherished Vehicle and Family Fun Day on Sunday, July 10 from 11am, at Meadow Farm Nurseries.

Mrs Hearn said: “This is the 10th year we have held this event, which normally attracts about 2,500 local people.

“We expect over 250 well-turned out vehicles to be on display as well as a performance arena, stalls and re-enactments and other events around the field.

Chippenham Lions are also looking for new members.
