SWINDON Town have been drawn away to League Two rivals Walsall in the first round of the League Cup.

Town will travel to the Poundland Bescot Stadium in the week commencing August 8 to take on Mike Flynn's Saddlers for a spot in round two.

The Southern-section draw - which was conducted by Clinton Morrison and Michael Dawson live on Sky Sports News - has pitted Swindon against Walsall for the fourth time in nine months.

Town won the previous three matches by an aggregate score of 10-1, consequently playing Manchester City in the third round of the FA Cup and reaching the League Two play-offs on the final day of the regular season.

Scott Lindsey's men will play The Saddlers at home in League Two on Boxing Day before the reverse fixture comes on Saturday, January 21.

Swindon went out in the first round of the competition last season following a goalless draw and consquently a penalty shoot-out defeat at Cambridge United.

The League Cup remains Town's only major trophy to date - two goals from Don Rogers and one from Roger Smart helped the heroes of 1969 defeat Arsenal 3-1 at Wembley Stadium.
