FORMER Swindon Town winger Jayden Mitchell-Lawson has signed for Scottish Championship side Ayr United.

The 22-year-old was released by Scott Lindsey’s men at the end of the 2021-22 campaign and joins the Honest Men on a two-year deal.

Mitchell-Lawson played 30 times for Town last season but made 21 of his 24 League Two appearances as a substitute.

Of his 23 substitute appearances in all competitions, the winger was given 15 minutes or less to make an impact on 18 occasions by former head coach Ben Garner.

Mitchell-Lawson was robbed of the chance to feature in the squad against Manchester City in the third round of the FA Cup due to an inconclusive Covid test.

The winger scored once during his time in Wiltshire – a well-taken finish on the counter-attack during a 3-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle in the EFL Trophy.

That particular competition was where Mitchell-Lawson enjoyed the most game time, he started all four matches and provided a further assist before Town exited the competition in the first knock-out stage at the hands of Colchester United.

Mitchell-Lawson started his career in Swindon’s youth set-up before continuing his development at Derby County where he made 88 appearances for the Under-18 and Under-23 sides. He scored 12 goals across his time there and recorded 15 assists.

The pacey forward went to make his senior debut for the Rams in March 2019 in a 0-0 draw with Stoke City.

He then had two loan spells at Bristol Rovers where he scored his first senior goal in just his fifth match for The Gas.

After being released by Derby at the end of the 2020-21 season, Mitchell-Lawson then re-signed for Swindon just days after Jonny Williams was brought to the club in August 2021.

Reacting to the move on Twitter, Town said: “Good luck, Jayden. Thanks for everything and all the best with your next adventure.”
