A WATCH which used to belong to Elvis Presley has been sold for six-figures in an auction which took place in Devizes last week.
A British collector bought the watch that Elvis wore on his "breakthrough national TV performance for £240,0000 - significantly more than it was expected to go for.
The auctioneers were originally expecting the watch to fetch between £100,000 and £150,000.
The auction by Henry Alridge and Sons also included other distinctive memorabilia such as a pair of white boots which the singer performed in, as well as a copy of one of his favourite books, ‘Leaves of Gold’ which Elvis made numerous spiritual notations in.
Andrew Aldridge of Henry Alridge and Sons said: “It was fabulous to see it go for that much. We're used to selling all kinds of things that mean a lot to people.
“But sometimes you get a phone call and find out you’ll be selling something like this and it’s always a nice surprise.”
It was also the first time an auction was held in-person after the pandemic which made the occasion particularly special for those involved.
Edward added: ”It’s so nice to be able to see people bidding face-to-face and to be able to have that atmosphere again after all this time.”
