EIGHT young skaters in Bradford on Avon have launched a promotional video to help raise £60,000 in 180 days for a new skatepark.

Apphia, Ethan, ldris, Kai, Leo, Luke, Miles and Wilson are the ‘stars’ of a new video produced by Light Touch with music by Louis Mars.

They are hoping to spread the message far and wide to attract new donations towards their £400,000 appeal and take the total over the £190,000 already raised.

#SkateBoAChallenge180 was launched over the weekend as the appeal organisers ramp up their bid to raise as much as they can in the next six months.

The skaters say: “If you're able to donate, or help fundraise to get the remaining £60K target beaten by the end of the year, please click www.skateboa.org and let us know your ideas and details.

“Can we also ask that you share this vid far and wide and spread the word. Ta!”

They added: “There’s just under six months left until the end of 2022, that’s around 180 days and our cut-off point for fundraising for the new Bradford on Avon skatepark.

“The aim is to raise another £60,000 for the pot, to make it £250,000 by the end of the year. But obviously, the more we raise the better the skatepark will be!”

All fundraising so far has been a community-led project, run by a small team of unpaid volunteers and endorsed by Bradford on Avon Town Council with councillors also volunteering their time.

They’ve also received support from some local businesses, such as AB Dynamics Ltd and Christine’s Sustainable Supermarket, that have offered their time and expertise and help financially.

But the skaters say: “We need more people to offer their time and skills - can you get involved in the organising of this project? Are you a legal eagle, a financial expert, a winning funding bid writer, etc?

“We’d like local community groups to collaborate and fundraise or just raise awareness.

“We’d love to have more local businesses supporting the project. Could you run some fundraising schemes through your work, or just donate a sum to the fund?”

The fundraisers have been forced to raise more money than they’d hope for after their bid for National Lottery cash failed.

They are now hoping to raise funds to enable Maverick Industries to build the skatepark on the Poulton Recreation Field.
