The Devizes Carnival Procession brought the town alive over the weekend with walking groups, floats and crowds lining the street in celebration.

The theme for this year’s event was ‘Go Wild’, with the concept giving people a reason to put on a party after two years without the carnival taking place.

The event also took into consideration the environmental issues which the world is facing and posed the question- what would happen if Noah had an Ark now?

A hand-pulled lead float was built by ‘And Now’ who created the Ark - and invited walking entries to follow the Ark in twos as is traditional.

People were encouraged to make a costume, and if they didn’t want to participate in the parade to collect materials for schools to use or make some elements that could be used in the organisers’ costume making.

It is a busy month for the youth group Phoenix Twirlstars who also attended, as they are soon going to be jetting off to the Netherlands to compete in World Championships- their leader Trish said that performing at the carnival gave them a great confidence boost.

She said: “The dancers always say the more people that are singing and dancing in the street makes them want to sing and dance more.”
