Former-Swindon Town defender Rob Hunt appears to be playing on trial at Crawley Town following the expiry of his contract at the County Ground.

Photos have emerged of the 27-year-old on trial with Crawley Town as he featured in their 5-0 win against Three Bridges as they prepare for the League Two season.

Swindon had remained in talks with Hunt over extending his stay in Wiltshire when their retained list was published in May but no further update has been forthcoming aside from Scott Lindsey assuring that the club were “working hard” to bring him back.

Lindsey said to Town’s media team in June: “I’m delighted with the players we’ve managed to bring in so far.

“Each one has their own qualities which helps add a different dimension to the team, and hopefully they can all hit the ground running.

“We are working hard behind the scenes to secure the services of some of our current players, but these things do take time unfortunately.

“We are under no illusion we need to strengthen the squad further if we are to compete, and work is ongoing to bring in some more players.”

Crawley have been building a strong squad this summer since they were bought by American consortium Wagmi United in April, with the arrival of highly rated coach Kevin Betsy along with last season’s League Two top scorer Dom Telford and Swindon captain Dion Conroy.

These pictures would indicate that Hunt could be on his way to joining them at the People’s Pension Stadium.

Hunt had been at Town for three seasons and reached 101 appearances in all competitions, winning the League Two title in his first season before being relegated from League One in his second and had his season cut short last season after picking up an injury away against Harrogate Town.

It had been rumoured last summer that the Brighton academy product could be on his way out at Swindon as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham had reportedly made several bids for him, but nothing ended up materialising.

Now with Hunt out of contract, he is able to choose his own destination and with him playing in West Sussex, it would appear his future lies away from Swindon.
