A promising young Wiltshire female referee is backing England’s Lionesses to lift the UEFA Women’s European Championship trophy in Sunday’s final against Germany.

Ella Broad, 19, from Westbury, says she is backing England to win.

She is hoping they will go one better than the previous England women’s football teams which fell at the final hurdle in the 1984 and 2009 European championships.

“It’s obviously really good that they have reached the final and I am hoping for the best. I think they have surprised everyone with their performances this year.”

Miss Broad has just been promoted to referee championship matches and will be running the line for the Women’s Super League when the new season starts in September.

She helped to promote women’s football during the UEFA European championship group stage, handing out leaflets and QR codes and giving information to youngsters

Miss Broad has already made a big name for herself within the Wiltshire FA refereeing community.

She has officiated in nine different leagues across the county from adult men's, women's and youth leagues, often covering 4-5 games a week.

In March last year, she was crowned the 2020 FA & McDonald’s Grassroots Official of the Year at a virtual awards ceremony.
