A woman has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after the death of a newborn baby at a Swindon home.

An investigation into the circumstances of the baby's death is ongoing and it is still being considered 'unexplained' by police.

Police were called by the ambulance service to the incident at an address in Grange Park on Monday morning.

The woman, in her 30s, remains in custody at Gablecross and is currently being questioned.

A post-mortem is due to take place on Monday.

Detective Inspector Simon Childe said: “This is a complex investigation into the very tragic death of a newborn baby.

"At this very early stage, although we have made an arrest, we are treating the death as unexplained and await the results of a post-mortem examination next week.”

Neighbours reported a large police presence in the Holbein Close area, which remained for more than 30 hours as officers and forensics teams carried out their investigations.

A police car was outside the property on Tuesday morning.
