Wiltshire is home to a host of famous names, but there’s one place in particular which was attended by an impressive amount of well-known faces.

Marlborough College was set up in 1843, when a group from the Church of England were looking to find a boarding school.

They found out that the Castle Inn at Marlborough was vacant, and the College officially opened in August of that year.

Since then, the celebrities, and public figures who attended the college include:

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge

Kate Middleton attended the college between 1996 and 2000, where she reportedly became a key part of the school- enjoying being a member of the hockey time as well as having a wide social circle of friends.

Jack Whitehall

The English comedian, actor, presenter and writer has previously joked to the Sun that he was the college’s ‘dirty little secret.’

He said: “I went to the same secondary school as Kate Middleton and she's someone they like to talk about.

"I've been sending them a letter each year saying maybe now it's time to put me in the school prospectus or on the walls.”

Bruce Chatwin

The travel writer and successful journalist was at the college from 1977-1989. He later left Marlborough in 1958, and moved on to London.

Sally Bercow

Sally is best known for being a British public personality and the wife of the former Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow.

When her father, Ronald Ilman, died, she reportedly used her inheritance to pay her own fees at the college.

Siegfried Sassoon

Siegfried Loraine Sassoon CBE MC was an English war poet, writer, and soldier, and studied at Marlborough College.

Ross McWhirter

Ross McWhirter truly went on to make his mark after leaving the college, as he later co-founded the Guinness Book of Records in 1955 with his twin.

James Mason

James Neville Mason, best known for his acting, started off as a British actor after leaving the college, and later found success in Hollywood.

Nick Drake

Famous for his acoustic guitar-based songs, Nick attended the college from 1962, which had also been attended by his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Beverley Nichols

Beverley was a writer, playwright and public speaker.

He wrote more than 60 books and plays after leaving the college.
