THE third Gompels family fun day and novelty dog show in Corsham was a hit with owners and their four-legged friends despite the fantastically good weather over the weekend.

Only 63 owners with their dogs turned out for the novelty fun dog show, compared with 110 dogs last year and 70 in 2019, the year before the Covid-19 pandemic began. The event was cancelled in 2020.

Organiser Anne Hopper, from Corsham, said: “It was very hot, but people still turned out with their dogs and we raised about £1,800 for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

“It was so hot that the microphone being used by Jill Gardner for the Foxcote Retrievers gundog display overheated and she had to do it vocally.

“But the day was a huge success considering the hot weather conditions and people had come from as far afield as Bristol, Swindon and Stroud.”

Once again, the fun day and dog show on Saturday (August 6) was staged at the Springfield Recreation Ground in Corsham.

The day’s attractions included a fun fair, face painting by Emma Fun Faces, an owl display, and a gundog display by the Foxcote Retrievers.

Visitors were able to browse and buy from around 30 stalls and the live music was provided by local duo Sweet Misery Singers.
