A police investigation is underway after it was reported that two groups of teens got into a fight over a football game.

Wiltshire Police were called to John Coles Park in Chippenham at around 6.30pm on Monday (15/08) after two groups of teens got into an argument that turned physical because of a game of football.

A spokesperson from Wiltshire Police said: "We have received a report of an altercation involving two groups of teenagers in John Coles Park on August 15 at approximately 6.30pm, following an argument over a game of football.

"Three 16-year-old boys are believed to have been punched, but fortunately sustained no serious injuries.

"Anyone with information should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54220086127."

Chippenham Town Council has said that it is aware of the problems and is working with Wiltshire Police.

It added in a statement: "We are aware of recent anti-social and criminal activity that has taken place in John Coles Park, and are working alongside Wiltshire Police to fully support their investigation and to ensure that positive action is taken to disrupt this unwanted behaviour.

"If you witness any anti-social or criminal activity, please report it to the police as soon as possible."
