Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) have issued an update after a canal boat caught fire in Bradford on Avon.

DWFRS confirmed that the owner of the boat suffered smoke inhalation and burns from the fire.

They were given first aid until an ambulance arrived and were then taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are believed to be minor.

Despite the attendance of three fire crews, the boat was completely destroyed by the blaze.

Wiltshire Times:

A DWFRS spokesperson said: “We were called just after 7.30am today with reports of a boat fire on the Canal near Baileys Barn, Bradford on Avon.

“Crews from Trowbridge, Bradford on Avon and Warminster were mobilised and on arrival found one canal boat alight.

“Four breathing apparatus wearers used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire and one casualty who had suffered smoke inhalation and burns was given first aid until the ambulance was in attendance.

“The stop message came through at 11.05am and firefighters remained on scene until just before 11.30am.

“The boat has been completely destroyed by the fire which is believed to have started accidentally. The cause has not yet been confirmed.”

Fire crews were able to avoid the boat blocking the canal and causing disruption.
