Hordes of people are helping to raise around £2,000 for the Westwood with Iford Primary School by taking part in the village’s 11th annual scarecrow trail.

This year’s theme is Cartoon Capers and features 30 scarecrows scattered around the village to raise funds for new outdoor play equipment at the school.

Westwood village shop assistant Kayleigh Smith said: “The trail maps have been selling like hot cakes. We’ve had lots of people coming in to buy them.”

The annual Westwood Scarecrow Trail is now in its 11th year and runs from Saturday, May 27 until the evening of Sunday, June 4.

Joint coordinators Nicky Down and Bryony Green said “It’s nice to see so many people of all ages around the village and walking the trail.

“We want to encourage more people to come, particularly as the weather has been so kind to us this year. It has been bright and sunny all weekend.”

This year’s trail is being sponsored by a local firm, JBC Carpentry & Construction, and trail maps are being sold at the village shop and the New Inn pub at £5 each to include a pencil.

All answers will be entered into a draw with prizes including a walk with alpacas at Wiltshire Alpacas at Poulshot near Devizes.
