More than 5,000 people enjoyed a Bank Holiday day out in bright sunshine in Bradford on Avon to help raise funds for local charities and good causes.

The annual family fun day event was organised by members of the Bradford on Avon Lions Club and is one of their major fundraising events of the year.

It featured a giant charity car boot sale on the Victory Field, with a funfair and traditional fairground attractions on Culver Close Recreation Field in Pound Lane.

Co-ordinator Phil Courage said: “The family fun day was a great success. We estimate that we had more than 5,000 visitors who had a really great time.

“The event was free and all the monies raised will go to local charities. We’re still counting the cash but we hope to have raised in excess of £4,000.

“As well as being fun to attend, the car boot sale and fun day are Lions fundraisers and the money is used to support a huge variety of projects, many of which are local.”

The fun included donkey rides, traditional fairground rides, bouncy castles, a bungee trampoline and a mini steam train.

There were also children’s sports, children’s magic shows, the John Martin Disco, games and sideshows, and skittles.

“There was also a lot more food outlets, including a wide variety of hot and cold foods such as crepes, Mac & Cheese, and Chinese food, and ice creams," Mr C ourage said.

Upcoming events include the Crafts, Choirs, Coffee and Cakes at Holy Trinity Church on July 15, from 10am to 4pm; and the Lions Fun Run on September 17.
