PETITIONS protesting against the merger of two doctors surgeries in Corsham and Box have been formally handed over to the board of Wiltshire Primary Care Trust.

The 2,000 plus signatures collected by worried residents in the two towns were handed over and noted at the meeting on Tuesday.

The strength of feeling stemmed from worry over the proposals, which would see The Box Surgery and The Porch Surgery in Corsham merged and relocated in Rudloe.

The plans angered residents who said they would no longer have easy access to their local GPs as a result.

At the meeting, it was resolved the PCT would have the final decision about the relocation of the surgeries should GPs come forward with formal proposals.

PCT chairman Tony Barron said if and when the trust make a decision, the petitions would be taken into account.

The Porch Surgery in Corsham will be holding an open meeting about its plans at 7.45pm on Monday July 7.

The meeting, which was scheduled to take place in the town hall, has now been moved to block H of Corsham School Hall.

The switch is due to the strength of feeling surrounding the proposals and the amount of people expected to attend.
