Wiltshire residents have been warned their weekends could be hit by outages to TV signal during “high pressure” weather.

Both Freeview and the BBC have warned viewers across the south of England and Wales that they may experience disruption to their TV and radio services during the weekend, particularly on Sunday, January 28.

This is due to high pressure weather conditions which can move and change, affecting different areas of the country along the way.

The atmospheric phenomena can cause TV signals from different transmitters to interfere with each other, leading to the pictures on viewers’ screens becoming distorted or disappearing.

During these periods of interference, members of the public should not attempt to retune their TVs and will be forced to wait for the weather to change.

Residents can use the transmitter checker tool on the BBC website to see if their signal is being impacted.

Cable and satellite services will not be disrupted and people can still tune into on-demand content or Freeview’s mobile app.

A statement on Freeview’s website warned: “Freeview viewers across parts of England and Wales could see some disruption to their TV reception on Sunday, January 28, 2024. 

“This is due to high pressure which could disrupt the TV signals which Freeview uses.”
