ALBA have unveiled their candidates for Scotland’s Yes city ahead of the General Election.

The party has announced they will field former SNP councillor Alan Ross in the Dundee Central constituency and independence activist Ghazi Khan in Arbroath and Broughty Ferry.

Both are new constituencies taking in areas currently held by the SNP.

Ross served as a councillor for the Lochee area of Dundee from 2007 and 2022 and also worked as a parliamentary assistant for outgoing Dundee East MP Stewart Hosie.

He currently works in rehabilitation, specialising in the treatment of men for alcoholism and drug addiction.

Khan has roots in the city, with his father having previously worked at in Dundee’s famous jute mills then running businesses in Dundee followed by Arbroath.

According to Companies House, Khan now works as a property investor.

Ross said he was focused on the “eradication of poverty from Scotland for good” and on independence.

He said: “Alba Party are the only party in Scotland with a plan, the people and crucially, the determination to deliver our independence. That is the choice I will be taking to people in the Yes city of Dundee.”

Khan added: “ The mainstream parties have let people down, and have focused on their own fortunes and governed in their own interests instead of the interests of the people in our community.

“I am committed working to tackle poverty and ensure public services meet the needs of the people they serve.

“The need for Scotland’s independence as an immediate priority will be front and centre of my campaign and I pledge to deliver for the people I wish to serve.”
