A planning application for a two-pitch caravan site near Swindon will now go before a planning committee after it was resubmitted to Wiltshire Council for the third time.

The site is located at Clay Pitts in Greenhill, north of Royal Wootton Bassett, and is the proposed location for two mobile homes, two caravans and two dayrooms.

These plans were refused in 2022 and 2023, but the latest application has been redesigned to “minimise harm” to the nearby public right of way.

Lydiard Millicent and Purton Parish Councils have maintained their objections, but the case officer report which will be presented to councillors recommends that they approve the plans.

It reads: “Previous objections from consultees have been removed by the current application and any harm is outweighed by the lack of a 5-year supply of appropriate Gypsy and Traveller sites.”

Wiltshire Council received 32 letters of objection, with one resident describing the application resubmissions as “an onslaught to the village”.

The applicant’s planning statement reads: “The pitches are now located behind existing buildings on site and in an area of the site that benefits from a gradual slope to further minimise views from the public footpath.”
