Dozens of parking bays in a busy car park in Trowbridge town centre will be closed off ‘until further notice’ while the council conducts ‘essential maintenance.’

The bays are on the second and third floors of St Stephens Place multi-story car park, in sections 2A and 3A.

Notices in the car park state that the bays will be closed off from Monday, March 31, with no end date specified.

The notices state that vehicles must not park in any of the dozens of bays highlighted on the signs.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council said that repairs were required, and that an engineer would be investigating the structure before next steps were decided on.

Lizzie Watkin, Wiltshire Council corporate director for Resources, said: “Some repairs are required at St Stephen’s Place car park, so we are partially closing access to bays on levels 2a and 3a to enable a structural engineer to make further assessments and inform our next steps.

“Despite the closure of some bays there will still be more than 330 spaces available for people to use.”
