A long-awaited home furnishing shop has officially opened its doors in a town shopping centre, with hundreds queueing to be among the first to break ground in the new retail spot.

Dunelm opened its new Trowbridge branch this morning. Located at Unit B in the Gateway Shopping Centre, the site opened its doors at 9am today, Monday June 23.

The opening has been keenly anticipated by town residents, with a Wiltshire Times photographer estimating there were as many as 300 people lined up outside the branch ahead of the official opening.

Before shoppers broke ground on Trowbridge’s latest retailer, the site’s new manager Dan Batey and Sarah Cardy chief executive at Age UK held a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The store was rumoured to be opening a Trowbridge branch in early April, when the company began advertising roles at a then-non-existent store. Since then, readers and residents have eagerly followed as the shopping space took shape.

Earlier in May, this paper reported that the store was advertising the opening date, after it had previously been revealed the homeware supplier would be setting up shop in Wiltshire’s county town.

Rumours that the homeware and furniture chain was opening at the unit in the shopping centre, in Bythesea Road, emerged in early April, when a job vacancy for a branch of the national retailer in the county town was posted online.

A public social media page for the branch has been created, keeping Trowbridge shoppers abreast of the latest at the retailer.
