The 'difficult but necessary' decision to close a Marlborough campsite has been announced.

Forestry England has announced that Sherwood Pines Camping Ltd has made the decision to cease operations at Postern Hill Campsite at the end of the summer season.

The last night for camping will be Sunday, October 5, with all units needing to vacate the pitch by 12pm.

A Forestry England spokesperson said: "Following a comprehensive review, Sherwood Pines Camping Ltd has taken the difficult, but necessary decision to cease operations at Postern Hill Campsite at the end of the summer season.

"Despite great customer reviews, strong, positive customer feedback, together with high numbers of repeat visitors, the financial performance of the site has not met the levels required to sustain ongoing operations. Rising operating costs, uncertain economic conditions, and the limitations of the site’s facilities have all contributed to this outcome.

"We understand this news will be extremely disappointing to our campers, many of whom have enjoyed this great location regularly over the years. However, this decision is based on the long-term commercial viability of the business.

"We would like to take this opportunity to extend our thanks to our dedicated staff for their incredible efforts, commitment and hard work over the past three years.

"Additionally, Rachel and Chris would like to say a huge thank you to the many campers that they’ve had the pleasure of welcoming to the site over these past few years, who have helped make their time at Postern Hill immensely enjoyable – they will miss you all!

"While Postern Hill will no longer operate as a campsite, we remain committed to providing quality leisure experiences in our other locations and ventures."

They have advised customers that any loyalty card stamps can still be redeemed at the sister sites Sherwood Pines and Bracelands until March 31, 2026.
