A mural created by pupils is lighting up their school with colour and meaning.

Unveiled at Seend CofE Primary School in Melksham, the artwork was made in partnership with local art teacher Jan Crabtree and celebrates the school's new vision, inspired by the biblical passage Matthew 5:14–16: "You are the light of the world... let your light shine."

The mural, now on display in the school hall, was developed through workshops in which pupils from all year groups explored what "letting your light shine" means to them.

Their drawings and words helped shape the final design, which reflects the school's core values of respect, generosity, wisdom, and community.

Holly Chivers, assistant principal at Seend CofE Primary School, said: "This mural is so much more than a piece of art – it's a living expression of our vision and values, created by the very people it’s meant to inspire: our children.

"When we launched our new school vision, taken from Matthew 5:14–16, we wanted those words – 'You are the light of the world... let your light shine' – to become deeply rooted in the life of our school.

"This project has allowed that vision to truly come alive."

Art teacher Jan Crabtree said: “I have loved working with the school to bring the head teacher’s vision to life through discussion and development of the ideas of the children.”

“The School Council members’ involvement in the design, their research and painting this superb piece has been a great team effort. It was a privilege to be part of it and support the school.”

The mural was officially unveiled during a celebration attended by staff, pupils, parents, and members of the local community.

Reverend Caroline dedicated the mural at the event.

She said: "I was delighted to dedicate the magnificent, newly created mural at Seend School at a special Goldbook this term.

"This mural will be a lasting reminder to us all as we seek to shine out in our school and community."

Seend CofE Primary School is part of The White Horse Federation.

Staff said they look forward to welcoming families at the school’s upcoming open days, which are listed on the school website.
