A cascade of more than 1,000 handmade poppies has gone on display in honour of Remembrance Day.

The striking tribute is on display at Crammer Court Independent Living Scheme in Devizes and was created by residents and members of the wider community.

The display is dedicated to the men and women who served in the armed forces, as well as the animals who supported them, represented by purple poppies.

Janet Holmes, who moved into Crammer Court earlier this year with her husband Chris, helped bring the project to life.

Mrs Holmes said: "Earlier in the year we held a VE Day party at Crammer Court and everyone had such a good time, we wanted to do something else to make people feel good."

The couple hand-sewed more than 1,000 poppies onto the display.

After sharing the project on social media, they received poppies from across the UK and Wales.

Mrs Holmes said: "We’ve been amazed by all the contributions, to receive over 1,000 handmade items has exceeded our expectations from residents and also from people all over the UK and Wales."

The project has inspired greater community spirit at Crammer Court, with residents now meeting regularly for social activities including quiz afternoons and bingo.
